Coldplay’s new single - free download

April 29, 2008

You read that right, with Mariah Carey pulling out her songs on every music blog to assure high legal downloads here comes Coldplay. However, the English rock band is instead giving away their new single on their website Coldplay.com! - for a week. It’s called Violet Hill. But the following week, the single will be available for a paid digital download. Their fourth album Viva La Vida is scheduled to be released on 16 June 2008 in the UK and 17 June 2008 in North America.

They’re UBER smart for marketing the new record - virally! That woudn’t even affect the sales of the new record since they’re WIDELY popular and has a SOLID fanbase who will surely download the single (again) from iTunes.

Grab your legal copies ’til it’s FREE!

Are you all getting sick of Pinoy Big Brother?

April 24, 2008

If I were to answer that question it’s definitely a BIG YES. In fact, I’ve already stopped watching this reality show since last season (PBB Celebrity Edition 2). Why?

1. The inconsistency of the rules. Ethel, Gabby and Mariel are going back and forth inside the house while Kuya always keeps reminding them that once they’re out they cannot go back inside anymore. WTF?!

2. They have already made a Star Circle Quest out of this supposed to be an all-kinds-of-Pinoy contest. - Seriously, this what makes this show boring. Why not get a basurero and a sosyalera on the house next time instead of putting some good looking faces with bland personalities, right? The PBB management should put all kinds of Filipinos in this house - from different walks of life. Honestly, they don’t really need to go to other countries to get some housemates ’cause they turn out to be boring.

3. It’s the same thing all over again. Yes, back in Season 1 (Nene Tamayo’s batch, remember her?), all those word fights are amusing but as this show progresses, it just gets old.

4. Awful tasks. Do I need to explain this? I’ve read here that Kuya’s new CREATIVE task now is for the boys to shave their heads in order for 100 kids to be circumcised. Yes the boys need to go bald for those 100 kids - to think there are many health centers there offering free circumcision this summer.

I really think that this show needs to take a break in 2 or 3 years.

Brooke White did a Showstopper - LITERALLY

Very interesting this night of American Idol, I must say. First of all, it’s an Andrew Lloyd Webber week. The man behind such unforgettable broadway hits like Phantom of the Opera, Cats and Jesus Christ Superstar. But what really caught my attention is Brooke White’s performance of You Must Love Me from the movie, Evita. It’s funny how Brooke’s introduction video buided up the momentum of such a potentially good performance, only to hear her say "I’m sorry, can we (start over)?" after singing the first line of her song. DANG! That was just the most uncomfortable/awkward moment i’ve seen in American Idol. Very very awkward, plus the defeaning silence when Paula was trying so hard to think of something nice to say. A literal showstopper indeed!

Watch the trainwreck below:

I’ll be really surprised she doesn’t go home tomorrow. The top performers this week are Carly Smithson, Syesha Mercado and David Cook.

Britain’s Got Talent - Madonna Decena

April 22, 2008

Yay! Another Filipino has recently made it to an international competition. This time it’s Madonna Decena, a pure blooded Filipina, on Britain’s Got Talent. Madonna surely exemplifies the thousands of Filipino OFWs sacrificing the separation from their families for a better future. It’s funny how Filipinos are all over the world these days- Charice Pempengco, Ramiele Malubay, Arnel Pineda and now, Madonna Decena. Who’s next? Well, I hope she wins this or at least make it to the finals.

GMANews.tv:
Madonna Decena, a Filipino performing artist in the United Kingdom, has reached the semi-finals of the judges’ auditions for “Britain’s Got Talent," a television show produced by American Idol judge Simon Cowell with the same format as its US counterpart, “America’s Got Talent."

Madonna, 32, obtained a communication arts degree from Miriam College in Quezon City. The family’s breadwinner for years now, Madonna is a single parent with two daughters, aged 5 and 6, who are under the care of her parents in Proj. 8, Quezon City.

Watch her emotional performance of I Will Always Love You below:

How do you find her?

Links (04-21-08)

April 21, 2008

There are so many buzz about American Idol, so I decided to put them in one post:

I hope she recovers soon. Having said that, VoteForTheWorst.com said that it isn’t all out yet. Maybe she’s pregnant? Let’s just wait for the big news.

It’s now confirmed. Will David Archuleta’s father ruin his chances of winning? I think so. He’ll most likely be the shock elimination this year.

An interesting read, and those are large figures! It’s no surprise though, American Idol is the most popular show in the planet!

I started watching ‘Idol’ in Season 3 so I don’t really know how he did on AI, but he was pretty mad.

Is Ultimate High NOT a pop album? No. Quoting from the last line the producer said, "It just wasn’t the right time for her."

Carmen Rasmusen is just stating the obvious. If you’re an avid fan of this show like me, you know that the producers play favorites.

Earth Day 2008

What Is Earth Day?

Earth Day falls every year on April 22, in celebration of the importance of the environment and to encourage action.

The first Earth Day was…

On April 22, 1970, 20 million people celebrated the first Earth Day, the brainchild of Senator Gaylord Nelson, one of the most environmentally aware men to ever grace the United States Senate floor. It was a time when cities were buried under their own smog and polluted rivers caught fire.

Earth Day is to…

Earth Day is held each year to promote awareness of environmental issues. It’s a special day to learn about our planet and how to take care of it.

What can I do?

Earth Day is a day to stop and think about your affect on the environment and what you can do to help protect it. One of the best ways to do that is by properly disposing of the products in your life. Here’s how:

  • Start a recycling program in your home, office or school
  • Shop for products made from recycled content
  • Create a compost pile for your food scraps
  • Recycle your obsolete electronics
  • Properly dispose of your household items

“What is the use of a house if you haven’t got a tolerable planet to put it on?”
-Henry David Thoreau

Earth Day 2008 is just around the corner. Join the global celebration for a healthy planet!

Artists That Put You To Sleep

Britons like a dose of music from the rock band Coldplay to help them fall asleep, a survey from hotel chain Travelodge found on Monday.

The band, whose frontman Chris Martin says he avoids caffeine and alcohol and is known for a lifestyle that is anything but rock ‘n’ roll, topped a poll of music choices to help listeners nod off.

Other artists chosen for their slumber-inducing qualities were James Blunt, Snow Patrol, Take That and Norah Jones.

The survey was carried out among 2,248 people. (REUTERS)

But I find it a little odd that Coldplay and Norah Jones are both Grammy winning acts and yet they made the list, isn’t it? Maybe it’s their lyrics that made them winners. Overall, I agree with those survey results, that’s why I usually don’t listen to Coldplay, James Blunt & Norah Jones when I’m on a trip ’cause they never fail to put me to sleep!

Gnarls Barkley’s free album download, Songs in reverse

Danger Mouse and Cee-Lo have posted their new album, The Odd Couple, as a free download at fronttobackbacktofront.com. If the idea of a free download isn’t strange enough, even stranger is that the entire album is played in reverse as one long track. Download and then fix it with your favourite audio editor.

An awesome marketing idea for the ‘real’ album, isn’t it?

LSS: David Cook - Always Be My Baby (Studio Version)

And my first LSS (last song syndrome) post on this blog goes to… David Cook!

When I first read the TMZ spoilers about David Cook doing Always Be My Baby, I know something interesting is going to happen that night and Cook didn’t fail to deliver. It was very brave for him to take a popular pop song and turn it to a haunting rock anthem- and he just nailed it. Honestly, I love it more than the Mariah Carey original.  Below is the studio version of his performance. And to note how popular his version of this song today, David Cook’s “Always Be My Baby” has been in the #1 position in iTunes for FOUR days. It will undoubtfully surpass his version of Billie Jean.

David Cook - Always Be My Baby (Studio Version):

Cook for the win!

Cebu Anal Surgery Scandal

April 20, 2008

A Cebuano male florist in his 30s was teary-eyed when he saw the video of his surgery for the first time.

The emergency operation last January was already traumatic.

Having a spray can removed from his rectum after a night of sex with a stranger was something he regretted.

Danilo (not his real name) was horrified to see images of the surgery three months later circulating on the popular video-sharing website YouTube.

Danilo said he felt violated and would file charges against medical personnel at the government-owned Vicente Sotto Medical Memorial Center (VSMMC).

He said his rights to privacy and confidentiality were violated. He was also offended when he saw in the video how medical interns and workers jeered and laughed when the metal can of Black Suede body spray was pulled out of his rectum.

The can was inserted by a man he had casual sex with last New Year’s Eve. Danilo said he was asleep when it happened.

It’s really funny what happened to that gay man. Gross, funny and foolish at the same time.

However, the doctors shouldn’t treated him that way. It’s normal to laugh about a thing like that (since it’s really funny). But videotaping while doing the ANAL surgery and later on posting it on the net is just wrong. Their licenses should be stripped off after this incident.

Rupert Grint disses Lindsay Lohan & Paris Hilton

Rupert Grint has ruled out moving to Los Angeles to boost his movie career - in fear of meeting party girls Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton.

The 19-year-old actor isn’t keen on moving to Hollywood after a fraught meeting with the Mean Girls star left him disappointed by her egotistical boasts.

And the British star has no intention to hook up with Lohan’s former party pal Paris Hilton either.

He says, “I met Lindsay last summer and she talked about herself a lot. She said she was going to win an Oscar before she turns 25. I just kept thinking, ‘But you can’t act’. I haven’t met Paris and don’t want to either. She and Lindsay are the type of girls you need to stay away from.”

Smart kid!

Marilyn Monroe Hardcore Video

April 19, 2008

Some really like it hot.

In the sordid tradition of peddling raunchy video footage of celebrities a la Paris Hilton, a long-buried sex movie of Marilyn Monroe recently hit the market, a top collector told The Post. (NY Post)

The 15 minute steamy video features the 50’s bombshell performing an oral sex on an unidentified man. Keya Morgan, the well-known memorabilia collector who discovered the film and brokered its purchase, sold the video to a New York businessman for $1.5 million.

FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover had his agents spend two weeks futilely trying to prove that Monroe’s sex partner was either John F. Kennedy or Robert F. Kennedy, according to declassified agency documents and interviews, Morgan said.

The silent black-and-white flick shows Monroe on her knees in front of a man whose face is just out of the shot.

Just when I thought it would soon leak in the internet, Morgan disclosed that the buyer would not going to make a Paris Hilton out of her! Lol. :D

In the US, 58% of music isn’t paid for

Most music comes from friends or from peer-to-peer file-sharing, according to NPD Group research.

In 2007, there was an increase in the volume of music acquired for nothing and a sharp decline in the amount paid for, according to NPD’s annual survey of Internet users. Although more people paid for digital downloads — that market grew from 7% to 10% — it wasn’t enough to cover the fall in CD sales — down from 41% to 32%.

Music industry lawsuits also failed to stop peer-to-peer file sharing, which grew from 14% to 19% by volume. This equalled the amount of music that NPD classes as "Burned from others" or "Ripped from others" (19% each).

People have invented internet that can distribute information and culture to all connected people almost instantly. Music and films can be distributed this way and it’s human nature for culture to be shared. They are fighting against human nature and every victory they get dilutes the power of internet. Lets not ruin one of the greatest inventions the world has ever seen in order to protect the profits of companies.

Is Abortion An ART?!

Unfortunately, it is for art major Aliza Shvarts.

Beginning next Tuesday, Shvarts will be displaying her senior art project, a documentation of a nine-month process during which she artificially inseminated herself "as often as possible" while periodically taking abortifacient drugs to induce miscarriages. Her exhibition will feature video recordings of these forced miscarriages as well as preserved collections of the blood from the process.

The goal in creating the art exhibition, Shvarts said, was to spark conversation and debate on the relationship between art and the human body. But her project has already provoked more than just debate, inciting, for instance, outcry at a forum for fellow senior art majors held last week. And when told about Shvarts’ project, students on both ends of the abortion debate have expressed shock . saying the project does everything from violate moral code to trivialize abortion.

But Shvarts insists her concept was not designed for "shock value."

"I hope it inspires some sort of discourse," Shvarts said. "Sure, some people will be upset with the message and will not agree with it, but it’s not the intention of the piece to scandalize anyone."

The "fabricators," or donors, of the sperm were not paid for their services, but Shvarts required them to periodically take tests for sexually transmitted diseases. She said she was not concerned about any medical effects the forced miscarriages may have had on her body. The abortifacient drugs she took were legal and herbal, she said, and she did not feel the need to consult a doctor about her repeated miscarriages

Shvarts declined to specify the number of sperm donors she used, as well as the number of times she inseminated herself.

Seriously who is this girl’s dealer? I don’t know what to think anymore. Sometimes people use the excuse of "art" in order to get away with craziness! Disgusting.

GMA to air Climate-Change docu "Signos"

April 18, 2008

GMANews.tv:

Global warming is the most serious threat the world faces today.

The warning signs are present , even here in the Philippines . Drought is felt during the rainy season and typhoons strike in the summer months. Sea water level is on the rise and more areas experience flooding . These are only some of the symptoms of a serious and growing global phenomenon: climate change. This environmental crisis puts the lives of millions at risk, hitting the poor countries hardest.

In response to the call for environmental awareness, GMA Public Affairs presents Signos (Fatal Signs), Philippine television’s first full-length documentary on what is considered the most pressing environmental issue today – the world’s changing climate as a result of decades of unchecked human activity. Following in the tradition of Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth", Signos aims to bring the concept closer to home through a nation-wide investigation of the manifestations of climate change.

Kudos to GMA for bringing this! I think this is very timely since all this news about the effects of climate change  is VERY ALARMING. Recently, French President Nicolas Sarkozy says new scientific evidence was confirming the "most gloomy scenarios".

"Faster-than-expected melting of ice in the polar regions comes as unwelcome proof."

Don’t miss this enlightening and eye-opening full-length documentary. Signos: Banta ng Nagbabagong Klima will premiere on GMA-7’s Sunday Night Box Office on April 20, right after Full Haus. Signos will be hosted by Richard Guttierrez.

American Idol 7 Contestants Have No Personality Says Simon Cowell

Since American Idol got it’s lowest ratings IN A MONTH according to Nielsen, Variety.com has asked Simon Cowell "to pinpoint a collective flaw in the season 7 cast"

His answer?

Personality. They are giving very safe answers to questions, making safe song selections. We are not getting a sense of who they are. We have to try to pull it out of them more.

Overall, 23 million viewers watched the Mariah Carey themed night, 7 million less than what Ryan Seacrest keeps insisting are watching. Last week ,during Idol Gives Back, only half of that viewers actually watched!

American Idol is my favorite TV show but personally, I am actually pretty bored with this season after Ramiele got eliminated (she’s my favorite). I didn’t even watched Idol Gives Back last week.

It’s funny how people keeps saying that Season 6 has the worst batch of contestants in AI (Sanjaya, anyone?) and now, all their rants become how the finalists this year don’t have personality.

Did the producers made a mistake in eliminating Danny Noriega, Amanda Overmyer or Ramiele Malubay by sticking to bland contestants (personality-wise) like Syesha Mercado?

Well, Season 7 still got 5 weeks more so it’s not too late to save this season. Right now, my picks for the title are David Cook and Carly Smithson.

Mariah, Madonna, Leona Make Billboard Chart History

April 17, 2008

2008 has turned out to be a great year for these 3 ladies; Mariah, Madonna and Leona. Not only their albums and current singles are doing great in the charts, but all of them are now/ soon-to-be record holders in the Billboard chart history.

According to Billboard.com:

Two leading ladies, Mariah Carey and Madonna, leapfrog over Elvis Presley in the Billboard charts record book this week. As expected, Mariah Carey moves past Elvis Presley and into sole possession of second place for most No. 1s in the rock era, as "Touch My Body" soars 15-1 on the Billboard Hot 100 to become her 18th chart-topper. With her album "E=MC2" yet to hit retail, Carey might equal the Beatles’ record of 20 No. 1s before her set runs its course.

Presley will also be nudged from his standing as the artist with the most top 10s in the rock era, as Madonna surpasses him with her 37th top 10, "4 Minutes." The track, which features Justin Timberlake, clocks a 68-3 jump. Previous to the establishment of the Billboard Hot 100 in 1958, the industry standard chart was the Best Sellers in Stores tally, where Presley scored his first 12 top 10s.

Elvis Presley might just roll from his grave to do a comeback! :D

On the other hand, X-Factor champ Leona Lewis is set to debut at no. 1 on the US album chart this week, the first British woman in history to achieve this feat.

It was the first time a British female solo artist had topped the chart since Kim Wilde went to No. 1 in 1987 with a cover of the Supremes’ “You Keep Me Hangin’ On.”
